In England, Free School Meals are universally available to all infant children in reception class, year 1 and year 2 who attend a state funded school. In Scotland this is extended upto year 3 children.
Older pupils can also claim free meals so long as they are in receipt of certain benefits including…

- Jobseeker’s Allowance (income based)
- Employment and Support Allowance (Income-related)
- State Pension Credit (Guarantee element)
- Child Tax Credit so long as you’re not eligible for Working Tax Credit AND your yearly income is less than £16,190
You should contact your local authority in order to make a claim.
