Warm Homes Discount

The Warm Homes Discount is a rebate you can apply for from your energy suppliers to help deal with the costs of heating your home. The scheme is aimed at low income pensioners but other groups and individuals may also be able to claim.

Basic Eligibility

The first thing you need to check is whether your energy supplier participates in the Warm Homes Discount scheme. In addition to this, you should also be aware that you (or you and your partner’s) name MUST appear on the bill in order to claim.

Assuming both of the above criteria have been met, you also need to fall into one of the following low income groups…

Low income Pensioners

If you are in receipt of the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit then you should be notified in writing by the government of your eligibility for Warm Homes Discount. The rebate should then be dealt with and paid back to you from your energy supplier. Eligibility for those who fall into the category is set at a national level.

Other low income groups

As well as pensioners other groups and individuals on a low income may also be able to claim. However the criteria is set by the individual energy companies themselves, so it is best to contact your current supplier and find out if you can make a claim. Typically you will need to be in receipt of certain benefits, have an illness or disability or be spending more than 10% of your income on heating your home.
